Education
Each year through our non-profit foundation, GWWF Foundation, we sponsor a variety of education programs with the goal of advancing the sport of fly fishing and the health of our fisheries.
Graduate Scholarship Program
In 2018 our Foundation awarded a $3000 scholarship to Erin Ferguson who is working on her Masters in Environmental Science with the goal of becoming a Senior Environmental Scientist Specialist in Central Valley steelhead recovery. While in school at California State University at Sacramento she has been working part-time since 2008 with the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife on anadromous fish in the Sacramento-San Joaquin river system. Jo Clark Youth Fund We created this program to encourage youngsters to fly fish after the passing of our beloved member Jo Clark. In 2018 we sent four girls and three boys to the five-day overnight camp held by the Fly Shop in Redding. Trout in the Classroom Each year we encourage interest in fish by bringing fish tanks to selected classrooms. We obtain eggs from Fish and Game. The school children observe the eggs hatch and then participate in a field trip to release the juveniles in appropriate waters. |
